You're Not My Friend

I've recently learned that a 3 1/2 year old likes to handle most rejections that come their way by saying, "Not Gonna Be Your Friend". I like the idea that all your problems in life could be solved with the response, "Not Gonna Be Your Friend".

Think about the simplicity of it

You don't get the promotion you want at work or you get a stupid job assignment. Give your superior a quick, "Not Gonna Be Your Friend".

Your spouse gives you a hard time about letting your papers pile up. Hey..."Not Gonna Be Your Friend".

The bank says you don't have enough money to buy the house of your dreams in Tarrytown. Well, "Not Gonna Be Your Friend Either"!

What I've realized about parenting and life maybe is just when you don't think you can take one more second, you get a reprieve. It has been a little difficult living with the second lady of the house lately. Just last night I was referencing Toddler 411 and How to Handle your 2-5 year old's Most Exacerbating Behavior for suggestions on some of the most recent behaviors that have made me strongly consider installing a margarita machine in my car.
Then tonight we had the loveliest evening together. I am thankful for the wonderful play and conversation we shared. Even if she wakes up tomorrow grumpier than ever it was nice to have a glimpse of what's on the other side.
